Dan Bowen, Master Illusionist, was a big hit at the Barney Library Spooktacular performance. His amazing illusions surprised everyone- even the adults. After the performance the audience enjoyed ice cream sundaes which came with sprinkles, cherries, and whipped cream. It was a busy night at the Barney and the show was a sell out as 150 patrons attended.

Hand-Painted Pumpkins, Home made Goodies and Reusable Library Equipment all on Sale at the Barney Tag Sale

Come to a good old fashioned tag sale in the Barney Library parking lot on October 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You will have an opportunity to buy Farmington grown pumpkins (some especially painted by local artists and library staff), enjoy and purchase baked goods baked by neighbors and library staff, and maybe take home reusable library equipment and furniture. There will be bargains galore and the food will be delicious. This bake sale and tag sale event is on October 4, 2008, in the Barney parking lot between the hours of 10 and 2. Be there!

Children's Programs Start Tuesday, September 23

If you have a child between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years of age, The Barney Library, 71 Main Street, Farmington has a program for you! Beginning Tuesday, September 23 at 9:30 a.m., Tot Time will welcome parents, caregivers and children from 6 weeks to the age of three years to a program consisting of forty-five minutes of book sharing, songs, fingerplays, playtime, music and movement as well as socialization. It's a fun time which is a joyful introduction to using library resources with children. The series will run thru Tuesday, November 11.
Parents of 3,4, and 5 year olds will be interested in The Barney Library Pre-school Story Hour which will meet at 10:30 a.m. beginning Wednesday, September 24 and continuing thru Wednesday, October 29.
A second session will be offered on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for pre-schoolers, beginning October 16 and ending on November 19. Each
program will feature stories, games, music, films and a craft thematically linked to the stories.

Meet The Author!

Steve Courtney, the author of Joseph Hopkins Twichell: The Life and Times of Mark Twain's Closest Friend will present a book discussion and slide show at The Barney Library, 71 Main Street, Farmington, on Tuesday, September 16 at 1:15 p.m. in the library reading room. Reviewed as "Extraordinary-biography at its best" and "a gem of a book", the program is guaranteed to enthrall Twichellites and Hartfordians, as well as Twain lovers, scholars, history enthusiasts and fans of biography. The social and intellectual currents of 19th century America set the stage for this engaging work. Don't miss "Meet The Author!"

Hydrangeas - an Art Exhibit by Dawn Nolan Lombardi

Come to Barney and view a beautiful oil painted garden full of Autumn's flower - the Hydrangea. The art opening was a big success. Matt Swanson played music on the grand piano and Judith Cooper showed her handcrafted quilts featuring Hydrangeas.

There is a new attraction to the children's play area and it is getting rave reviews from our preschool crowd. A fully constructed, with all its tracks, and extra cars - BRIO TRAIN SET has arrived!

Kids, moms, dads, grandparents, brothers and sisters are all having a wonderful time discovering this fun-filled train track and station. All aboard for some great playtimes ahead.

Spooktacular Magic Show Planned

Circle Friday, September 26 on your calendar so that you won't miss a Friday Family Fun Night at The Barney Library, 71 Main Street, Farmington. At 6:45 p.m., Magician Dan Bowen will wow the audience with a Spooktacular Magic Show that will give you a headstart on this year's Halloween celebration. Recommended for ages 5 and up, the magic show will be followed by a Make Your Own Sundae Buffet. Reservations are required and may be made by calling The Barney Library at 677-6866 before Wednesday, September 26 at 5 p.m. Join the fun!
